In 2002 driving for Blair Racing, Alex finished fourth in the Indianapolis 500 and was the Co-Winning Rookie of the Year. Alex went on to win the 2002 Firestone Indy 200 at Nashville Speedway and also finished third at STL.

In 2003 Alex won the Firestone Indy 400 at Michigan International Speedway driving for Mo Nunn Racing.

In 2004 for Cheever Racing, he finished Third at TXS and in 2005 for Team Cleever finished Third.
